TN
That U.S. opportunity is worth a conversation. Explore professional work through the TN pathway.
Consider a Delta-based supply chain or logistics manager who could move to a U.S. role either as a new hire under TN or as an internal transfer under L-1A. Because Delta sits near major land border crossings, the practical entry process is worth planning alongside the category choice.

TN and L-1A are two of the six pathways we track, alongside L-1B, E-2, EB-5 and Gold Card. For a logistics professional with ties to a Canadian and U.S. operation, comparing these two first is usually the efficient starting point.
Choose what brings you here. Leave with a short list of things to discuss—not another long form to fill out.
Settle the employer relationship question first.

The right category depends on whether the U.S. role is a genuinely new position with a separate employer or an internal move within a related company structure. Getting that distinction right early shapes which documents to gather.

A practical plan.
No promises we can’t keep.
Determine whether the U.S. position is with an unrelated employer, which points toward TN, or a related entity of your current employer, which points toward L-1A.
For a TN case, compare duties to the qualifying occupation list; for an L-1A case, confirm the role is genuinely managerial or executive rather than operational.
Canadian citizens can seek TN or L-1 status at designated ports of entry, including preclearance locations; review current CBP guidance on documentation and appointment procedures before travel.
Border processing can raise questions on the day, so build in time before any required start date and know what supporting documents to bring in case of additional review.
If the employer relationship is not entirely clear-cut, use the journey tool or book a free initial consultation and describe the corporate structure as you understand it.

Canadian citizens may apply at any qualifying port of entry, and CBP has designated certain locations, including the Vancouver preclearance facility and the Blaine-Peace Arch port of entry, for optimized processing of first-time TN and L-1 applicants. Other ports remain available but may not offer the same dedicated appointment process.
Canadian citizens generally do not need a Form I-129 petition or a visa from the Department of State before requesting TN status at the border, unlike Mexican citizens, who must first obtain a visa at a consulate. Bring supporting documents directly to the port of entry instead.
Beyond proof of the qualifying corporate relationship and employment history, CBP officers reviewing an L-1 case at the border will expect a clear description of the intended U.S. role and evidence supporting managerial or executive duties, similar to what a Form I-129 petition would contain.
Applications can be referred for additional review, so allow extra time before any firm start date and bring complete original documentation rather than summaries, since incomplete evidence is a common reason for delay.
