TD status allows a dependent to study, but it does not authorize a spouse to take employment. If household finances depend on a second income, assess a separate work-authorized route before counting that income in the relocation budget.
Extend the household record, not just the principal's file
Distinguish the spouse’s study plans from the proposed paid work. Gather the details of any job offer and obtain advice about independent work eligibility. Plan living costs without assuming an immediate second salary, and keep each family member’s entry documents and authorized-stay dates visible in the household timeline.
Two further household points belong in that same timeline. Each dependant's authorized period runs with the principal's rather than on a schedule of its own, so an extension is a household exercise and the paperwork for every person should be assembled together rather than in sequence. And confirm each passport's expiry against the end of the period being sought, not against today, since a passport that expires mid-period is among the few obstacles that is both entirely predictable and entirely avoidable.
Add school stages and any age threshold to the same page. Hypothetical example: a biologist's household maps the extension and finds a passport expiring four months into the requested period and a child turning twenty-one seven months after that, neither of which had featured in any conversation until the dates sat side by side.
