What credential documents matter most for an engineering TN case?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

Bring the specific degree transcript in the relevant engineering discipline, any professional engineering licence or registration, and a written duty description from the employer. Where the degree or licence was obtained outside Canada or Mexico, note that for separate review, since equivalency is not automatic.

Match documents to the discipline, not the general field

A general engineering degree does not automatically cover every engineering specialty recognized under the profession list, so identify the applicant's actual discipline and gather documents specific to it. If a licence is pending renewal or was issued years ago under different requirements, note the current status precisely. This level of detail lets the reviewer assess whether the credential genuinely supports the specific role being offered, rather than assuming any engineering degree will do.

Add two items to the credential list. Where the qualifying path relies on experience rather than a degree alone, that experience needs evidence more durable than a résumé line: dated employment letters describing the actual work performed, or project records naming the person and the period. And obtain licence or registration standing in writing from the issuing body rather than relying on a wallet card, because renewal cycles and changes of scope are not visible on the card itself.

Hypothetical example: a hydrogeologist holds a registration granted under earlier requirements, and a short letter from the regulator confirming current standing and its scope resolves in a week a question that would otherwise have to be argued at the counter with no way to supply anything further.
