Bring the current TN offer and duty details, any prior TN history, and a clear description of the longer-term route being considered, including its current stage. Counsel needs both pictures to advise on sequencing and intent consistency.
Show the full picture, not just the next filing
A conversation limited to the immediate TN application can miss the longer-term context that actually matters for advice. Bring details of any employer discussions about sponsorship, prior TN or other visa history, and rough timing for the longer-term step if one exists. This lets counsel assess the whole sequence rather than giving generic guidance about a single filing in isolation.
Hypothetical example: an interior designer has held TN status for four years and her employer has begun discussing a longer-term route without anything being filed. A first review would ask exactly what stage that discussion has reached, who inside the employer has authority to commit to it, and whether anything has been submitted anywhere. Those three answers change the advice materially.
It would also ask for the current offer letter and the previous ones, since a description that has drifted from temporary to open-ended across renewals is a fact the applicant should know about before the next request. Bring the previous letters as well as the current one, since the comparison is the point.
