U.S. visa support in Surrey. YOURAMERICANDREAM.

Let’s make your move.
WORK.
BUILD.
BELONG.

Picture a Surrey household where one parent has a TN-qualifying job offer and the family is planning a move together, including school-aged children. Because Surrey sits close to major land border crossings, the paperwork checklist and the crossing plan can be organized side by side.

THE DREAM IS YOURS.
LET’S FIND THE WAY.

TN is one of six pathways tracked here alongside L-1A, L-1B, E-2, EB-5 and Gold Card. For a family relocating together on a TN case, the household paperwork often takes as much organizing as the primary applicant's own file.

YOU WEREN’T

A smooth family TN move depends on complete documentation for every traveler, not just the primary applicant, and on realistic expectations about what TD status does and does not allow for a spouse and children.

A practical plan.
No promises we can’t keep.

01

Complete the primary applicant's TN file

Confirm the occupation match, gather credentials and secure a detailed employer letter before planning the rest of the household's move around it.

02

Assemble TD documentation for the family

Gather proof of the marital or parent-child relationship, valid passports and any school records for children who will accompany the TN holder.

03

Plan the border crossing for the whole family

Decide whether to travel together or separately, and confirm what documentation each family member should carry at a port of entry or preclearance location.

04

Address school enrollment and spouse work questions early

Research school enrollment requirements in the destination area and clarify that TD status does not include work authorization if a spouse hopes to work.

A LITTLE CLARITY GOES A LONG WAY.

BEFORE THE BIG MOVE

LET’S CLEAR
A FEW THINGS UP.

What documents does a family need for TD status?

Generally, proof of the relationship to the TN holder, such as a marriage or birth certificate, along with a valid passport for each family member. No separate USCIS petition is required for initial TD status, according to USCIS guidance.

Can children in TD status attend school in the U.S.?

Yes, USCIS guidance confirms that TD dependents are permitted to study while in the U.S., even though TD status does not include work authorization for a spouse.

Should the family cross the border together?

Families can travel together or separately, but each traveler needs their own supporting documentation regardless of how the trip is arranged. Planning who carries which documents in advance avoids confusion at the port of entry.

What if the spouse also wants to work?

TD status does not include work authorization, so a spouse who wants to work would need to qualify for their own status, such as a separate TN classification if they have a qualifying job offer, rather than relying on TD status alone.
